eActs- To promote health, education and sportsmanship for Armenia’s youth

Education of Armenian Children through Sports or eACTS is a new AHABA-initiated program promoting strong bodies and minds through a healthy and active lifestyle for children throughout the school years. AHABA joined forces with TEAMOV and GOALS (Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports Educational Foundation) to pilot co-ed basketball leagues, teaching leadership & collaborative skills.

Initial funds raised were used to evaluate the current involvement of Armenian children in physical education within the public schools. Through the research phase it became clear that a health and wellness initiative that increases physical education (PE) hours and promotes team sports in schools and as extracurricular activities year-round was needed. As a healthcare organization AHABA understands the importance of physical activity to children for building sportsmanship in competition, widening  students’ sporting experience and enjoyment, and creating passion for active recreation and sports. Engaging children in team sports is an integral part of education and a key to improving physical and mental health, advancing academic achievement, empowering women and girls, and building stronger ties within communities and families.

To begin the eActs initiative, AHABA joined forces with TEAMOV (a newly formed Armenian NGO) and GOALS (Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports Educational Foundation) to establish co-ed basketball leagues (up to 10 teams)) in two regions. This includes coach training (10 coaches in partnership with local and international partner organizations), organization of sports and educational activities for the Fall and Spring seasons. eActs will provide safe spaces where children can have a sense of normalcy to develop their leadership skills and work on their physical and mental wellbeing.
